Privacy Policy
Snap Shoot Share — Effective May 26, 2026Overview
Snap Shoot Share is a native macOS screenshot and screen recording utility made by The Portland Company. This policy explains what data the app collects (very little), when anything ever leaves your Mac (only when you explicitly ask it to), and how the optional sharing features work.
What We Collect
Snap Shoot Share does not collect personal information, usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry of any kind. There is no account, no sign-in, and no registration required to use the app.
The only data that ever leaves your device is the content you explicitly choose to share — specifically, the screenshot or screen recording file itself (see How Sharing Works below). This is the only data category the app transmits, and only when you initiate it.
How Sharing Works
By default, Snap Shoot Share operates in Local Only mode. Captures are saved to your Mac and never uploaded anywhere. Nothing leaves your device automatically.
When you choose to create a share link for a specific capture, that individual screenshot or recording is transmitted to provide you with that link. Sharing is always an explicit, per-item action — it never happens in the background or without your initiation.
Share links are unguessable (randomly generated). Only someone who has the link can view the shared file.
Hosting Options
Snap Shoot Share offers three sharing modes. You choose which one to use:
- Managed Hosting (Cloudflare-backed). When you share a file using this mode, the file is uploaded to Cloudflare storage infrastructure operated by The Portland Company. The file is used solely to serve your share link. Stored objects are subject to automatic expiration (see Data Retention below).
- Self-Hosted. You configure the app to use your own Cloudflare Worker and storage bucket (or any compatible endpoint). In this mode, your files go directly to your infrastructure — The Portland Company never receives or stores them. You are solely responsible for that data.
- Local Tunnel. A secure tunnel (such as Cloudflare Quick Tunnel) exposes a single HTTPS link directly from your Mac. The file is served from your device; nothing is stored on any third-party server. The tunnel tool is installed only after you explicitly consent inside the app.
Data Retention
For Managed Hosting, stored objects are automatically deleted after 30 days by default. You can set a shorter expiration on any individual capture at the time you share it. There is no longer-term retention of your content beyond the expiration window you configure.
For Self-Hosted and Local Tunnel modes, retention is entirely under your control. The Portland Company retains nothing.
Locally, Snap Shoot Share stores captures in the location you designate on your own Mac. You can delete or purge captures at any time from within the app.
